For your consideration, we are offering for sale this scarce 2012 Sailor King of Pens Fountain Pen in collaboration with Classic Pens. This Fountain Pen is commonly referred to as LB5 in the Kaen (violent flames) color. This is one of the prototypes produced and carries the 00/50 limited edition number. This LB5 pen has been internally cleaned, put back together, tested, and is in spectacular writing condition.
Classic Pens and Sailor Japan worked together to produce a bigger and bolder version of the base Sailor Fountain Pen for the company's 25th Anniversary. Classic Pens worked with Carville to create exclusive diffusion bonded acrylics. The design created resulted in a 5mm longer barrel and a choice of cap band and engraving. The Kaen color was one of the final colors chosen to be used in the limited edition run of 50 pens for each of the five colors produced. Each color was based on Japanese meaning/themes and the Kaen (Violent Flames) denotes human passion. Japanese people hold fire festivals to celebrate nature, which through thunder can cause forest fires with blazing flames. This is the red color prototype Kaen color which is named for. Some of the pens were fitted with an upgraded nib known as the Nagahara Cross Point nib, which this pen has.
The cap and barrel are in perfect condition with no cracks, nicks, scratches, or repairs. The cap is always securing tightly to the barrel. The trim is perfect with no scratches or wear.
The cap banding is stamped with, "SAILOR, LB5, KAEN, and 00/50".
I am going to flat out say the 21K gold Nagahara Cross Point Nib is the best I have ever written with. It is such a soft and ultra-smooth writing experience that I never had with any other pen manufacturer ever. The nib iridium measures at 1.06mm which is a heavy medium or light broad. When creating the writing sample in the images, the line/stroke ranges from a medium (.74mm) to double broad (1.35mm) variation. I used Parker Blue ink to create the writing sample.
This Sailor comes with the original ink converter seen in the images. I have tested it with water and works as it was designed.
There is no box or documentation that comes with the pen.
The fountain pen measures 6 1/4" inches in length capped and 7" inches posted. The pen weighs 1.47 ounces.
This Classic Pens LB5 Prototype rarely comes up for sale. These are exclusive and extremely rare writing instruments that Andy Lambrou created in conjunction with Sailor Japan. I would consider this fountain pen in Near Mint to Mint condition. The Nagahara Cross Point Nib is spectacular on this fountain pen and one of the reasons why this fountain pen is so very desirable.
